An Easy Guide to a Healthier Lifestyle

Whilst I'm enjoying my last month as a grumpy, lazy and above all an undeniably moody teenager before turning 20 next month, I've been making some small changes to my lifestyle in order to make it "Healthier". Now I understand many of you will see the word healthy and think that I'm going to preach to you all about the benefits of eating green salads for every meal, but that's not quite what I'm going for. I've been making small changes to my daily routine just to have a healthier mindset and outlook on life.

  • The first change I've made lately, which no matter how bored you are of hearing it it's so very true, is that I've been drinking a lot more water. It's true what they say, if you drink more water (or diluted squash if you prefer) you will feel more awake and in an overall better mood. I invested in a £5 water bottle from Tesco which I fill with fruit so it infuses the water and consequently prompts me to drink more. Just try it out, I promise you'll see a huge difference!
  • The next once sounds like a chore, but it's just to do a small bit of exercise a few times a week. I know you're supposed to do around an hour a day (or something unrealistic like that) but even if its just a few star jumps or dancing like mad to your favourite song in front of your mirror - I highly recommend the latter. The small amount of exercise you wouldn't think would do much, but you'll be surprised!
  • Get rid of all the toxic people in your life. If you have "friends" who are constantly putting you down, not including you or just in general making you feel like crap, you need to remove them from your life. This is something I've struggled with since I was a lot younger, but the older I've gotten I've realised how important it is to surround yourself with the right people, friends who make you feel valued. It's hard to just cut ties with people you're close to, especially if its someone you've known for years, but if they're bringing nothing but a negative vibe to your life, you need to get rid of it. You'll be surprised at the weight  it will lift off your shoulders.
  • Stop spending so much time in bed. Now I don't mean this as "get out of bed earlier" but if you're going to be spending the day at home, whether it's working on your laptop or binge watching a TV series on Netflix, don't just sit in bed. Get up and go sit on the couch or somewhere else in your house, it will make you feel much less of a lazy mess! My bed tends to be the place I go when I just want to be alone to sulk and contemplate my life (thats definitely a woman thing, you girls will know exactly what I'm on about!), but if you're sat there all day then you're not going to feel in a very positive or productive mood!
  • Find a hobby. Clear your mind. If, like me, you spend a lot of time online - scrolling though Twitter, then Instagram, then Facebook followed swiftly by stalking your friends on Snapchat and then repeat until you on the verge of death by boredom - this one is important for you. Spend an hour a day playing a musical instrument, doing a jigsaw or painting. It can even be something as simple as an adult colouring book, just something active to do which will occupy your mind, allowing it to actually work rather than just be focused on a screen.
  • The last one I purposefully put it last because it's the one most people will find difficult. Cut down on the unhealthy food. I know I said this wasn't going to be a "Salad Diet" related post, and it's not! But you will find if you eat crappy fatty foods you're going to feel more of a couch potato than if you make yourself some good food. I've been really working hard on my diet lately, making small changes to make it healthier and it's helped my mood, motivation and most importantly my attitude to life.
